Choose a Laptop

All students are required to have a laptop computer.

A limited number of computers are available in the Addlestone Library. IT will furnish students with the necessary software so that they can conduct their computer lab assignments on their personal computers.

Financial aid may be available for this.  Visit Financial Aid for information on any available options.  Information Technology has a limited number of laptops and WiFi Hotspots available to loan to those students who cannot afford one.

We do not recommend Chromebooks because they cannot run all of the software you may need and some models have issues connecting to our wireless network.

Both Apple and Dell have established College of Charleston online stores where you can take advantage of reduced pricing when purchasing personal computers. Both sites include models recommended by Information Technology at various price point options.

System Requirements

The base requirement for your laptop computer should be that it runs Windows 10 or MacOS version 10.15  The base level recommendation is an i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and a 250 GB solid state hard drive.  Further, you will need a webcam and microphone for your laptop.  (Most models will have these built in.)

For certain majors, a higher performance laptop is recommended.  The specifications For this series is an i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a 250 GB solid state hard drive.  As with the other recommended models, these should be running either windows 10 or MacOS 10.15 and include a webcam and microphone.
