Account Creation and Format

Email accounts are created when you are hired if you are a permanent employee, or a faculty or adjunct faculty member. Email accounts are created for all others upon request by your supervisor. A Cougars account, which allows login to campus computers and online services like MyCharleston, is created for every employee when hired.

Your email address at the College of Charleston is your Cougars username with @cofc.edu appended to it. For example, if your name was John Smith and your username was smithj, your email address would be smithj@cofc.edu. This account is created upon your hiring at the College. If you don't know your email account name and password, contact Helpdesk at 843.953.3375 or helpdesk@cofc.edu. If you need an email account set up, please contact your supervisor or department chair.

In May 2016, the College migrated all faculty and staff Exchange mailboxes from on premise servers to the cloud based Exchange Online environment. Exchange Online provides your Outlook email, Calendar and Contacts through an online web interface. Accessing your mail, calendar information, and contacts will not change for those using desktop or mobile mail clients.

Accessing Exchange Online

You can access your email through the Outlook desktop client, mobile devices, and online through https://portal.office.com or https://outlook.office365.com. Office 365 is designed to work with the current version of the Safari, Chrome, and Firefox browsers; the latest version of the Microsoft Edge browser, and the current or immediately previous version of Internet Explorer. As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft implemented changes across Office 365 workloads, which resulted in a significantly diminished experience for Office 365 users on Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9. IE8 and IE9 are not recommended.
